An estimated 3 lakh people are expected to gather at the Ramlila Maidan, in New Delhi for a massive BJP rally against price rise on Wednesday.


The rally - the first of such high-profile proportions since Nitin Gadkari took over as party president - is expected to start from 11 am when over ten thousand protesters are expected to stage a march to Jantar Mantar. The rally which continues through many of the busiest roads of central Delhi will throw traffic movement across much of the city out of gear.


According to reports almost all parking lots around Ramlila Maidan - including ITO and Jantar Mantar - will be used for vehicles ferrying the protesters who are expected to come from over 28 states.


Areas that could be badly hit include Ring Road, Mathura Road, India Gate, Tilak Marg, BSZ Marg, JLN Marg, Asaf Ali Road, Netaji Subhash Marg, Ranjit Singh Marg, Tolstoy Marg, Sikandara Road, Barakhamba Road, Parliament Street and Ashoka Road.

BJP supporters will enter Delhi through 8 road entry points and 30 trains. BJP leaders like L K Advani, Nitin Gadkari, Sushma Swaraj and others will address a massive gathering at Ramlila Maidan from 11 to 1 pm and then march to Parliament street virtually gheraoing Parliament.

LK Advani, Nitin Gadkari, Sushma Swaraj, and other BJP leaders will address a rally against price-rise @ 10:00 am @ Ramlila Maidan.

With the main opposition BJP expected to be absent in view of its agitation over price rise, the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha will take up private members' business tomorrow afternoon.

Police have issued a warning to people heading to New Delhi and central Delhi to avoid public and private transport and use Metro services only, to avoid getting stuck in traffic jams. For this purpose the new-age transport system will increase its frequency on the Central Secretariat-Jehangirpuri line.

BJP supporters are expected to start gathering at around 8 am. "There will be a march from Ramlila to Jantar Mantar at around 2 pm. So we expect traffic problems from 8 am and it may ease by around 5 pm," Joint Commissioner (Traffic) Satyendra Garg told reporters yesterday. He said elaborate arrangements have been made for the rally.

Goods vehicles entering the city will be diverted at Wazirabad T-Point, Chandagi Ram Akhara, ISBT Loop of Shahdara, Laxmi Nagar, ISBT Yamuna river bridge, Nizamuddin bridge and Neela Gumbad in Nizamuddin, he said. Buses will also be diverted at various places. No buses including chartered buses will be allowed on Ranjit Singh Marg towards Gurunanak Chowk from Barakhamba side.

Meanwhile with the main opposition BJP expected to be absent in view of its agitation over price rise, the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha will take up private members' business this afternoon.
