Mumbai: Auto driver, woman held for trying to push girl into flesh trade
The MIDC police, on Wednesday evening, caught an auto driver along with the mother of a 13-year-old girl in Andehri as the latter was going to push the minor into the sex trade
The MIDC police, on Wednesday evening, caught an auto driver along with the mother of a 13-year-old girl at Poonam Nagar locality in Andehri (W) as the latter was going to push the minor into the sex trade. The cops swung into action after they were alerted by an NGO, which works towards saving trafficked people.
According to MIDC police station sources, on Wednesday evening, a raid was conducted at MMRDA colony in Poonam Nagar, along with the NGO. During the raid, it was found that the girl was brought to the colony to be sold by her mother, with the auto driver playing the pimp.
The NGO came to know that the auto driver is involved in the prostitution business, who also supplied virgin girls. As per the information, the NGO contacted the driver, and readied a decoy customer. He got in touch with the driver and demanded a virgin girl. The ‘customer’ said he was willing to shell out any amount for the same.
The driver then asked people from the NGO to come along with the cash at Poonam Nagar locality and told them he is having a 13-year-old girl. After the deal was finalised, the NGO contacted the MIDC police and, with the help of them, landed at the given address to catch the driver along with the girl's mother
According to the MIDC police, the girl’s price was fixed in lakhs but they recovered only Rs 14,000 cash, two mobile phones. The girl's mother has her own flat in the colony, and it is suspect that she herself was in the prostitution business.
The auto driver has been booked under relevant sections of IPC while the girl’s mother was asked to go, but the cops ordered her to pay visits to the police station.
“It is suspected that this auto driver has pushed many innocent girls into this trade to earn fast money. We are investigating the matter,” a police officer said.
