Mumbai: BEST land to be commercially exploited to partially fund Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro line

In order to generate funds for the completely underground and ambitious Colaba-Bandra-Seepz (CBS) metro line three, the Mumbai Metro Railway Corporation (MMRC) has decided to commercially exploit three plots owned by Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) below which the metro line will pass.

MMRC has decided to commercially exploit three plots owned by BEST at Hutatma Chowk, Mahalaxmi and Seepz (4904 square metres). Confirming the same, an official from MMRC said, “We will require funds for the construction of CBS which is a completely underground line and so we will be commercially exploiting the two plots of BEST at Mahalaxmi and Seepz . The third plot located at Colaba will be used for the construction of entry and exit of the station.”

At the Seepz plot, the MMRC will be constructing a ground +14 tower and there will be a bus depot on ground floor. In addition there will also be a underground parking lot and a recreation space over ground.

It should be noted that BEST has an open plot in Mahalakshmi area admeasuring 4762 square metres and this place is around 250-300 meters away from the Mahalakshmi metro station. “We have plans to use the same plot for construction but a decision about the same is yet to be taken by BEST,” an MMRC official said

At the third plot that is located near Hutatma Chowk, the MMRC has plans to construct the BEST electricity sub-station to the first floor and the space below will be used for the construction of entry and exit of the metro station.
