Mumbai: BMC offers to plant trees in housing societies

If your housing society has decided to plant more than 5 trees this monsoon, the BMC will do it for you.

In order to increase Mumbai's green cover, and have the citizens do it, the BMC on Friday made this announcement.

According to a statement released by the civic body, if any private housing society has decided to plant more than 5 trees this monsoon, the Tree Authority will bring saplings and its gardeners will plant them at the designated spots.

However, the housing society has to agree to maintain the trees. The plantation will be done between July 1 and August 31.

All those who wish to take advantage of the scheme may contact the local ward office.

Every ward has one designated person who will work as a co-ordinator.

"This is a very good initiative. I am proud to be a part of it," said Abhijit Chavhan, member of the Tree Authority.
