Popular standup comedian and film actor Rehman Khan, who gained fame after appearing on a well known TV show, was arrested by the Valiv police of Vasai on charges of rape.

According to the police, a 30-year-old woman, a resident of Santacruz, had lodged a complaint against the comedian in Santacruz police station on February 29. She said in her complaint that Khan raped her many times in several two-star hotels of Vasai. The case got transferred later to Valiv police station.
The police arrested Khan from his residence at Kurla late on Tuesday night. Later he was produced in court and remanded in police custody till March 14.
An official from Valiv police station said, Khan and the survivor were in touch for the past one year.
According to the police official, the woman’s husband is working abroad and she stays with their kids in Santacruz.
In her complaint, informed the official, she said she was a fan of Khan, so she tracked him on social media and sent him a friend request on Facebook. Eventually they became friends and later they shared their contact numbers and started talking to each other through WhatsApp.
Khan then asked her for R2 lakh, and when she started demanding her money back, he allegedly called her on the pretext of returning the money and raped her in a two-star hotel in Vasai.
After this, the woman claims, on many occasions he called her to a hotel room on the pretext of returning her money and raped her.
SPI of Valiv police station, CS Patil said, “We have booked him under Sections 376 (rape), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 406 (criminal breach of trust) of IPC and now he is in police custody till March 14.”
