Mumbai crime: Gang of five women robs Borivli jeweller of Rs 13 lakh

It was a bad Gudi Padwa for Kalyan Jewellers in Borivli, as a gang of five women robbed their store. The gang fled with six gold bangles collectively worth of Rs 13 lakh.

The gang targeted the store precisely due to the festive rush on Monday afternoon, since there would be many people in the showroom. While they left with six bangles, the whole incident has been captured on the store’s CCTV cameras. The Borivli police have registered the case.

The store has around 30 CCTV cameras and 60 staffers.

Not their first
The police also said the gang had targeted a shop in Khar (West) in November, and robbed the jeweller of R 6 lakh in valuables.

This incident, too, was recorded on the shop’s CCTV cameras.

Now, the Khar police and the Borivli police are working on the case together, with six teams investigating the case.
Borivli police identified the accused from the footage received from the Khar robbery.

Cop says
Yuvraj Inamdar, sub- inspector at Borivli police station, said, “ We have registered a case under sections 380 ( theft in dwelling, house etc) and 34 ( acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intent). We hope to arrest them soon.” Cops felt the gang may have targeted more stores in a similar fashion.
