On Saturday morning, the VP Road police arrested Mahesh Kompodia Vaagri, a 34-year-old resident of Bhandari Street, Bhuleshwar, for attempting to murder his wife and two-year-old son.

At 6.30 am on Saturday, Vaagri, who sells kitchen utensils, attacked his wife, Sita (32), with a hammer and slit her right wrist with a blade and then threw his two-year-old son from their first floor residence on the road.

After the incident, the family’s neighbours immediately informed the police and the mother-son duo was rushed to JJ Hospital where the two are currently undergoing treatment.

Senior Inspector Suresh Babu Kilje said, “We have arrested Mahesh. He seems mentally unstable. According to his neighbours, he would always be suspicious of his wife’s movements and attacked her in a fit of rage. His son is serious but his wife is on the road to recovery.”

A complaint has been registered at VP Marg police station under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal code.
