A 30-year-old businessman was arrested by the Mumbai Crime Branch (Unit II) after his lover alleged that he had filmed her during sex and then threatened to make the video public unless she paid him Rs 3 crore. She also said that he had threatened to rape her sisters and to frame her father in a fake crime.
The victim is a 34-year-old Colaba resident and a sales executive at a seven-star hotel where she first met the accused, Salauddin Arif Khan, in 2009. Khan, a resident of Secunderabad, would often stay at the hotel while on business trips, and over time, the two struck a friendship that later turned into a love affair.

The victim is married with an 8-year-old child, but was not on good terms with her husband. According to the police, Khan took advantage of this and began the extortion. “The accused took obscene videos of her and started threatening her for money. He had already taken R60 lakh and then demanded another R3 crore,” said a crime branch officer.
Later, he took to beating the victim as well, and said he would post the video clip on social networking sites and defame her if she did not give in to his demands. The victim then registered a complaint at the Gamdevi police station.
On the other hand, the accused’s lawyer, Ajay Dubey claimed that the victim and the accused are married, and that she owes him money. He said, “Salauddin and the victim got married; they performed a nikah, but now the victim claims she did not know it was a marriage. My client has also given her money.”
