The city — sliced, diced and served with a dash of sauce

Mumbai Diary: Thursday Dossier

Swim along with the coolness
Designer duo Shivan and Narresh are back in town. Popular for their resort wear, the Dilliwallas are all set to showcase their new collections — Cruise Resort 2015 collection and Destination Wedding.

Watch out for fluid resort wear and jewelled swimwear, in a colour palette of soft saffrons, yolk yellows and nudes, set against electric ceruleans and classic blacks.

The collection will also feature three signature prints: vintage fruits and vegetables, flat shapes and modern foliage patterns interpreted from Rousseau’s works.

When school kids become stage producers
Students from St Mary (ICSE) and Campion School have come together to start their own production house, The White House. The young group, comprising 16-20-year-olds is ready to stage their first production, Oblivion, this weekend.

We hear that the play is a love story about a young and ambitious magician named Mike Spark. The play discusses how stardom becomes his biggest regret as he falls prey to the treachery and ignorance of people he once called friends.

The play explores his journey to understand the real meaning of life through a chance encounter with two young boys. We suggest you drop by Bhabha Theatre at Sophia College on December 5 (7 pm) to watch the young actors set the stage alight as they test the waters of theatre in their debut production. Mid-day, now made art
It was a pleasant surprise when acclaimed artist Anjolie Ela Menon asked if anyone from mid-day was present among the engrossed audience at the opening of her new show on Monday. An unusual query, we thought, posed bang in the middle of her presentation at the CSMVS.

The presentation was made in the presence of Mumbai’s ardent artists and critics. As this diarist toyed with the idea of putting her hand up, Anjolie showed a photo of her 1997 series, titled Mid-day, made after observing a poor woman who hawked this newspaper at a traffic signal.

A child in hand, and another by her side, the female figure as the bearer of Mid-day, was a poignant moment for us. More so, since Anjolie titled the series after us. Ms Menon, we heart you back too!

Green, like the Irish
It’s the season for new menus to hit city restaurants, pubs and bars. Popular pub chain, The Irish House will launch #TheIrishMenuMadness that began yesterday. Head there for their new specialty cocktails, beers, loaded fries and a variety of delish-sounding burgers.

We’re curious about the names of certain cocktail lovers, including Green Goblet, Whistleblower, Butter Rum, Jack Sparrow, The Inverted Bird, and The Red Army. Enough, we think, to make the Irish go green with pride.
