Marathi actor Praful Bhalerao was killed in a train accident in Mumbai, police said. The mishap took place this morning when Bhalerao was on his way to Goregaon from Malad in the western suburbs, a police official said. A case of accidental death has been registered and police are probing the matter further. The deceased's body has been sent for post mortem.

According to sources from the Borivali Government Railway Police, Bhalerao was en route to Girgaum after boarding a train at Malad railway station. Officials suspect he might have lost his grip as the locomotive gained speed as they feel he was leaning over the footboard. His parents were informed after Bhalerao's mobile phone was recovered from his pocket.

Praful Bhalerao, 22, shot to fame as a child actor and is best known for his role in the popular TV series Kunku. He had also worked in a Marathi film, 'Barayan' -- which released recently.

However, it was 'Kunku' that gave him popularity and made him a household name in Maharashtra. Bhalerao had also featured in Marathi serials like 'Tu Majha Sangati', 'Nakushi' and 'Jyotiba Phule'.
