A man fell on iron rods in a pit at a construction site in Nariman Point near Manora MLA House yesterday. According to officials from the Disaster Management Cell, around 7.30 pm, the fire brigade got a call from locals about a labourer who had fallen into a pit full of iron rods.

Rajendra Pal got stuck on the rods, as a few of them pierced his body. A fire brigade team had to then cut the rods and bring him out, with two rod parts lodged inside him. Pal, who was conscious, was taken to GT Hospital for treatment.

A civic official said, “It was a very critical rescue operation, as we had to remove him by cutting the rods, while taking care to avoid any damage to his vital organs.” According to officials, doctors at GT Hospital are trying to remove the rod pieces.
