The 33-year-old owner of a mobile shop has been arrested for allegedly harassing a 24-year-old woman, by sending her lewd messages and forcing her to have a sexual relationship with him. The accused was held after the woman, who works as a fashion designer, filed an FIR with Borivli police.
The accused, Bharat Purohit
According to the police, the complainant was in a relationship with the accused, Bharat Purohit, for several years before they separated recently. Purohit owns on mobile shop in Borivli (west).
The couple met in 2008, when the woman was studying at a college in Kandivli. In her complaint, the woman said that while they were in a relationship, they were also sexually intimate, but she never told her parents about it.
However, last October, after things went awry between the two, the complainant decided to break up with Purohit. But, the accused continued to harass her, and on April 26, forwarded her some of their private photographs on WhatsApp. He further threatened to leak the photos on social media, when she refused to get intimate with him. The messages continued for several days, until the woman finally approached the police on Thursday.
A police officer from the Borivli police station said, “Based on the woman’s complaint given by the woman against Purohit, an FIR was registered under section 354 (A) of the IPC. He was arrested the same day and later released on bail.”
