Mumbai: Yuva Sena members come to blows over groupism

The Yuva Sena office at Mulund saw a massive quarrel on February 29, and if party workers are to be believed, a car of a Vibhag Adhikari was even damaged after it.

A video of the fight sent to this reporter by some party leaders, shows secretary Purvesh Sarnaik (sitting) chairing the meeting. Within moments, the fight started. A senior leader said there are lots of groups in the second-rung leaders. They are using the power as it suits them and aren’t bothered about the workers

A video of the fight made available to this paper by some Yuva Sena leaders, has brought to the fore the groupism that leaders who feel neglected have been talking about for a while. In the video, Purvesh Sarnaik, the secretary of Yuva Sena, is seen chairing the meeting and within moments, one can hear names of other top leaders of Yuva Sena, Amey Ghole and Pawan Jadhav called, and the verbal fight begins.

According to a Yuva Sena worker present at the meeting, Raj Kulkarni, the Vibhag Adhikari of the area, had told Sarnaik, that some members claimed they would only come for the meeting if Jadhav or Ghole informed them. This caused an immediate verbal fight and things went out of hand.

“There was a real fight that happened, some workers even went and damaged the car parked outside belonging to Kulkarni. There has been a lot of trouble in the functioning of Yuva Sena here, and hence the meeting was called. But then it turned to be violent as misunderstanding was growing with every passing day but there was no solution to it,” said the worker.

According to another party worker, the Yuva Sainiks present in the meeting were informed by Sarnaik that by March 20, another meeting to select and appoint new members will be held. “It is almost a month now but nothing has happened, and people are still waiting for new appointments,” the worker said.

A senior leader who migrated from Bhartiya Vidyarthi Sena to Yuva Sena, claimed that, there are lots of groups now formed in the second rung leaders. “These leaders are using the power as it suits them and aren’t bothered about the party workers,” he said.

Sarnaik confirmed that in the meeting a spat did happen, but termed it to be a minor one. He also claimed that he spoke to the Vibhag Adhikari, Kulkarni on the car being damaged and he was told that it was just a scratch. “Anywhere, may it be in Maharashtra or any shakha, if there are disputes, we as responsible members of the party will go and resolve the issue,” said Sarnaik.

A party leader added, “There are many such fights that are allegedly breaking amongst karyakartas of the Yuva Sena, especially between groups who have different bosses.”
