"All the cadets, henceforth, joining the National Defence Academy (NDA) will pass out with a BE degree or BA Honours with military specialisation from the University of Pune.

All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) has approved the proposal and other procedural aspects are in the final stage,” said Lt Gen Jatinder Singh, Commandant NDA.

Proximity matters
Currently, cadets get degrees issued from the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Delhi. “The JNU is a well established national university. However, the proximity of the Pune University makes sense for the NDA to be associated with it. It would also enable much better faculty development, usage of facilities and guidance,” said Singh.

He was speaking at a press conference organised by the NDA to provide information regarding Passing out Parade (POP) and various issues concerning the institution. Cadets with a science background will pursue a bachelors in engineering and those with a humanities background, the NDA will award the BA Honours degree.
