A fire broke out yesterday afternoon in the home ministry's office at North Block here but was soon brought under control, officials said. Union Home Minister P Chidambaram rushed to the spot to inspect the extent of the damage.

The fire erupted on one of the higher floors, a Delhi Fire Service official said. Nearly 10 fire engines battled the flames. “We received the call around 2.20 pm and the fire was doused within 10 minutes after the fire tenders reached the spot.
