ONGC official sentenced to 3 yrs RI in disproportionate assets case

The Special Judge, Mumbai, has convicted I.P.Shankaran, former Deputy Superintending Engineer (Civil), ONGC, LPG Plant, Uran Distt., in Raigad for possession of disproportionate assets and sentenced him to three years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs.one lakh.

The Special Judge, Mumbai, has convicted I.P.Shankaran, former Deputy Superintending Engineer (Civil), ONGC, LPG Plant, Uran Distt., in Raigad for possession of disproportionate assets and sentenced him to three years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs.one lakh.


Property amounting to Rs.23 lakhs has also been ordered to be confiscated to the state.


The CBI in Mumbai registered a case on December 2, 1987 against Shankaran for possession of disproportionate assets worth Rs.22.80 lakh.


After completion of investigation, a charge sheet was filed by the CBI, ACB, Mumbai, against the accused before the Special Court, Mumbai on March 23,1989.

The accused was also earlier sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for two years with a fine of Rs.20,000/- on March 17, 2009 by the Special Juge, Raigad, in another CBI case related to accepting a bribe of Rs.3.25 lakh for certifying false bills submitted by the private construction company.
