Cops are visiting all their relatives’ houses in the city, and nearby areas to trace the accused. According to police, the paternal grandmother and aunts have filed for anticipatory bail on January 3, a day after the father of the child was arrested.

“We are searching for aunts Shabana Shaikh and Shirin Shaikh and grandmother Salima Hukerry. We are keeping a close watch at their residence. We have questioned several of their relatives and also searched various residences, but have not found them yet,” said investigating police officer SA Jadhav, Hinjewadi police station.

The police have also visited the accused’s relative’s houses in Sinhagad, Rahatni and Dehu Road to look for them. The baby was severely beaten by her father, grandmother, and two aunts for allegedly being born a girl in their house, as the grandmother wanted a boy.

It is alleged that the grandmother beat the tot so ruthlessly that the childs’ legs were fractured. She also had blood clots on her cheeks. After the baby’s body swelled up with the beating, her father and mother admitted her to DY Patil hospital on December 20.

A case was registered following MiD DAY’s intervention. Following the revelation, the police took the child’s mother into confidence and recorded her statement. According to the medical report, the baby also had old fractures.

“The father of the baby Dastgir was arrested on January 2. After his arrest, Shabana, Shirin and Salima approached to the court seeking anticipatory bail the next day. All the accused have been charged under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC,” Jadhav said. u00a0
