So, it was a surprise for the Bangalore city police when Ramesh Kumar (name changed) appeared on Tuesday before them and volunteered his preventive detention. Kumar, a historysheeter and a mischief monger according to police records, would be picked up by the cops during such situations to avoid any untoward incident.
Explaining his voluntary act, Ramesh Kumar, a historysheeter and a mischief monger according to police records, said that whenever any untoward incident happened, the police would round up such elements for questioning. This was regardless of them being involved or not.
This led him to approach the cops voluntarily, as he didn't want the police to believe that he was involved in any such incident, if at all anything happened. "We are an easy target for the police and we do not wanted anything to happen to us this time," said another person who volunteered to the station the two days prior to the verdict.
Another senior police officer from Mysore city said that this has saved the police lot of time and resources, otherwise they would have had to depute extra officials to round them up.
"The police has been a good host to return the good gesture they (suspects) expressed during the crisis timing," said Singh.
Elaborating on the bandobast, Singh said, "We had hired around 1,300 video cameramen and deputed them across the state at sensitive areas to record if any incident happens for further investigations."
He joked, "Hiring so many cameramen may have caused a scarcity for private functions across the state." The station and district level officials were directed to be in touch with the community leaders to ensure peace and harmony.
Singh thanked the general public for their cooperation. He appealed that they tender the same cooperation in future too. Though there were no reports of violence across the state, the prohibitory orders will be continued today, but will be relaxed during the prayer timing. Those detained would be released on Saturday.
