Mahajan was attached to Chunabhatti police station and had been tasked with the responsibility of the anti-terrorist cell, a few days prior to the incident.

It is understood that he shot himself, as he was under stress. Following the incident, it came to light that on the fateful day, he was embroiled in a major fight with his wife in the morning, after which she left their residence in Kurla to go to Nashik.

Also, the same afternoon he was reprimanded by the zonal DCP over some internal charges. The chain of events took a toll on his mental health, making him unhappy. He even requested for time off, but it was declined.

A few hours later at 3 pm, the 44-year-old cop pulled the trigger of his service revolver and shot himself in the head. u00a0
