In a bid to keep the King of Pop alive in their hearts, scores of Puneites are swarming to music stores to lay their hands on Michael Jackson's CDs.
This in turn, has upped the sales of his albums considerably. Besides, every nightclub is blaring with his tunes since he succumbed to a cardiac arrest last Thursday.
Meera Mohan, manager of Landmark stores, Camp, said, "People of all ages are buying MJ accessories. The CDs and DVDs of his live performances are flying off the shelves. His posters are a craze."
Dozen a day
A manager from another popular music store in Camp said, "Before MJ's death we sold around six audio CDs a week. These days we sell around a dozen a day."
Amarjit Singh, department head, Crossword, Kalyani Nagar, said, "We had only a few CDs of Thriller and MJ-King of Pop and those sold out fast, so we had to place a bulk order to meet the demand."
Stores are also paying tribute to the moonwalker in various ways. Landmark has put up an MJ corner where patrons can light candles in his memory. Most restaurant and nightclubs are playing MJ tracks.u00a0 Shailendra Kekade, executive chef at Stone Water Grill in Koregaon Park, said, "We are only playing MJ tracks. Customers are appreciating the gesture, and enjoying the music."
While, Sandy Singh, owner of North Main Mediterranean at Koregaon Park, said, "Most of our customers request us to play Black or White and Dangerous."
Vijay Gupta, a lawyer, said, "After MJ died, I bought a CD of Thriller, which is my favorite album."
Mohamed Albeelie, a student from Dubai studying at the Institute of Advanced Studies of Pune University, said, "I bought copies of Thriller, Bad, Dangerous and HIStory."
