Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader T K S Elangovan on Monday took a jibe at Mulayam Singh Yadav for his demand to ban the use of the English language in Parliament, and said his party is ready to speak in Hindi, if the Samajwadi Party (SP) supremo talks in Tamil
“He wants everyone to speak in Hindi. We are ready to speak in Hindi if Mulayam Singh is ready to talk in Tamil. Let him learn Tamil, and we will learn Hindi,” he said.

Congress leader Jagdambika Pal also said that a ban on the English language in the Parliament would have a very negative impact on the country’s unity in diversity.
“Congress-led UPA Government is giving full importance to Hindi language, but even today, be it in courts or in the Parliament, if a member belongs to South India, he or she might know the regional language or English.
Similarly, people in the north know Hindi or Bhojpuri. Now, if you put a ban on English language in the Parliament, and say only Hindi must be used, this will have a very negative impact on India’s unity in diversity,’ he said.
Mulayam Yadav sought a ban on the use of English language in Parliament while addressing a function held by Hindi Sewa Trust in Etawah on Saturday evening.
“When MPs ask for vote, they do so in Hindi, but address Parliament in English. This should stop,” he said.
“There should be a ban on English address in Parliament. Countries, which use their mother tongue, are more developed. It is the need of the hour to promote Hindi,” he added.
