It seems that Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation's 'Man of Action' ufffd Municipal Commissioner Dr Srikar Pardeshi ufffd is hell bent on demolishing illegal constructions in PCMC area
Yesterday, residents of Mohan Nagar met Dr Pardeshi and requested him to stop the ongoing demolition of an illegal first-floor residential building measuring 1,400 sq feet, in Shiv Dashan colony in the area. The building had around five studio apartments and the residents had been asked to evacuate the complex.u00a0
However, the mob got furious when Pardeshi asked them to submit documents showing the construction to be legal to stop the demolition. They also gheraoed his vehicle and manhandled his security.

Iron fist
As soon as Dr Pardeshi took over as Municipal Commissioner of PCMC last year, his first priority was demolition of all commercial or residential illegal constructions in the area, irrespective of the resistance.
“There should be some discipline regarding laws among citizens. Irrespective of such obstacles, I would keep following directives of the High Court which says to take action against illegal construction in the state,” said Dr Pardeshi. He added that he had asked residents to produce documents that proved the construction to be legal. However, they couldn’t provide any such document and therefore the action was taken.
Political backing
Meanwhile, sources claim that local politicians pushed the residents to gherao Pardeshi’s official vehicle.
“The local corporators always help residents in curbing drives which reduce their vote banks. Most politicians of the area stay in Mohan Nagar, which is the other reason for the extent of resistance against this particular drive,” said a source.u00a0
