RPF cop beaten up after exposing cement theft

A class IV railway employee and his wife threatened to kill the officer who had lodged a complaint about their illegal activities including stealing cement from goods trains and encroachment of railway land

The Bund Garden police have booked a class IV employee of railways and his wife for allegedly assaulting a senior police inspector from the Railway Protection Force (RPF), after the couple were caught smuggling cement from goods carrier trains. They had allegedly encroached upon railway land to build a makeshift shed to sell cement illegally.

Accused Anil Gaikwad is also guilty of stealing electricity from poles meant for the railways. Police inspector Arvindkumar Lakhoriya, who is attached to the RPF (Pune Circle and heads the reserve police force of RPF, registered a complaint against the railway employee.


According to the information given by complainant, an RPF officer along with an office personnel were on a visit to a railway quarters and found that Gaikwad who lives at the quarters had encroached on railway property and was selling cement.

“On August 28, I along with some police officers went to his residence where we found that hew had stashed some stolen cement from the goods carriers trains, inside some gunny bags and also came to know that he was selling it illegally,” Lakhoriya said. The accused was also caught stealing electricity and even procured an illegal water connection. When Gaikwad learntof the complaint, he threatened Lakhoriya of dire consequences.

On August 29, Lakhoriya along with his team went to Gaikwad’s residence to take action against him, however after reaching his house, an infuriated Gaikwad started abusing and even threatened Lakhoriya that he would kill him. “When I tried to seek explanation from him, about the power theft, cement theft and encroachment on railway property, his wife assaulted me and snatched my shoulder badges and Gaikwad hurled a stone towards me, however I succeeded in saving myself,” he said.

Lakhoriya then alerted his office and approached the Bund Garden police station where his complaint was not entertained, however he then approached the senior police officers in the city police and his compliant was finally registered.u00a0When contacted PSI S D Waghmare of the Bund garden police station, he said that they have booked Gaikwad and his wife under relevant sections of IPC and Indian Electricity Act 2003.
