New Delhi: The champion team in the second edition of Hero Hockey India League (HIL) 2014 shall take home Rs 2.5 crore in prize money while the runners-up will get Rs 1.25 crore, Hockey India (HI) announced yesterday.
The third-placed team will win Rs 75 lakh. The league will start January 25 with six franchises and will be played across Delhi, Mumbai, Mohali, Bhubaneswar, Ranchi and Lucknow over a period of almost four weeks.
Apart from the top three teams winning cash prizes, the Player of the Tournament will get Rs 25 lakh while the highest goal scorer will win Rs 10 lakh.
Star bags FIH rights
Meanwhile, STAR India yesterday bagged broadcasting rights for FIH events in an eight-year deal. The deal will is from Jan 2015 to Dec 2022.
