Sania, Paes in mixed doubles quarters
India’s tennis stars Sania Mirza and Leander Paes advanced to the quarter-finals of the US Open mixed doubles here last night. Sania and her Brit partner Colin Fleming won their mixed doubles third-round match against Americans Melanie Oudin and Jack Sock 6-4, 7-6 (7) to enter the last eight, where they will face the fourth-seeded Czech-Polish pair of Kveta Peschke and Marcin Matkowski.

Paes, who earlier advanced to the men’s double quarters with Czech Radek Stepanek, won his mixed doubles third round match partnering Russian Elena Vesnina beating Americans Abigail Spears and Scott Lipsky 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (5). Third seeds Paes-Vesnina next meet seventh-seeded Czechs Lucie Hradecka and Frantisek Cermak.
Mahesh Bhupathi’s mixed doubles campaign with Czech partner Andrea Hlavackova came to an end as they gave a walkover to Spaniards Nuria Llagostera Vives and David Marrero in Round Three.
