Bhopal: Security was heightened in the Madhya Pradesh capital ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit here on Friday, said police official.


Railway stations, airports, bus terminals, important markets and localities in the city were secured ahead of the high profile visit. Vehicles were screened at different check points to ensure no untoward incident occur.


The administration also issued a circular asking all government and semi government offices to suspended work post 3 p.m.

Modi will be inaugurating the newly built war memorial -- Shaurya Samarak -- and address a meeting of former servicemen at Lal Pared ground, here during his three-hour visit, ahead of the BRICS meet in Goa.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to leave New Delhi at 2.30 p.m. on Friday and arrive here at the Bhopal Airport at 4.05 p.m. He will be at Lal Pared ground between 4.30 p.m. and 5.20 p.m.

He will also call on Acharya Vidysagar Maharaj at the Habibganj Jain temple.

Later he will proceed to the Arera Hills for the inauguaration of 'Shaurya Smarak' that
portrays the patriotic journey of a soldier. The valour gallery showcases the tradition of military honour.

At 7.05 p.m. Modi will leave for Panaji.
