Pradeep Andrews, a freelance bartender who also runs a bartending school in town called Shaken N Stirred will be teaching you the tricks of his trade.

Besides a series of 25 simple vodka, white rum and whiskey based cocktails that can be made at home, the workshop will tell you how to set up a home bar without spending a lot of money. "A home bar can be created in as much as R 1,500 exclusive of the ingredients.

Nothing spanky but it can cover basic equipment that a bar requires," says Andrews. Some of the cocktails that will be taught will include fresh fruit and vegetable-based variations of Mojitos, Cosmopolitan, Whiskey Sour and Blue Lagoon.

Andrews, who has worked as a bartender with various hotel chains and liquor labels believes that he has had a passion for the mixes and says, "I love to teach people how to get other people drunk", he says. "For myself though, I prefer a whiskey and water or rum and water," he adds.

Andrews will also provide small tips like substitutes for cocktail ingredients during the workshop. "For example, when making a Bloody Mary, you could use chilli powder in place of Tabasco and if you don't have Worcestershire sauce you can use a little bit of tamarind paste dissolved in water," says Andrews.

Also part of the workshop will be a session on what cocktails to mix for what party and a few flair tricks. "People who are interested in flair bartending will pick up some tricks while the others can have fun watching," says Andrews.
