If sources are to be believed, then Sharad Pawar of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is headed to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). It seems the ex-corporator from NCP has been in talks with BJP leaders and if all goes well, he may soon join the saffron brigade. Sharad, who represented the Chandivli belt earlier managed to receive 6,000 votes from his constituency, even during the BJP wave. His wife Savita Pawar represents the constituency now. As per a senior NCP leader, Sharad has been quite active and even during the last elections, when his wife had contested, he managed to get more than 4,000 votes for her.

When contacted, Sharad's wife Savita, who answered the call, said, "These are rumours. We are happy with NCP and there are no plans of joining BJP." Udaypratap Singh, the spokesperson from Mumbai NCP, claimed that people from outside the party are behind this false news. "Sharad Pawar is a party loyalist. We looked into the rumours and they are all baseless. He will stay with the party," said Singh.

A BJP leader, on condition of anonymity, claimed that the party is not averse to anyone. "During his last visit, our national president told us to admit whoever wants to join, irrespective of which party he belongs to. His only instruction was to ensure that the person does not have any criminal charges against him/her. Political charges won't be an issue," he said.

A senior NCP leader revealed that apart from Pawar, there are rumours of other party leaders expressing their interest in joining BJP as well. "There is a big leader from central Mumbai, who had previously headed certain boards. He is also trying to get into the BJP," said the leader.
