Just a day before America goes to polls to elect its 45th President, Sonam Kapoor campaigned for Hillary Clinton at an event in Arizona where she also encouraged the South Asian community to vote. She is among a bunch of Bollywood celebs, including Prem Ratan Dhan Payo co-star Salman Khan, Rishi Kapoor, Kabir Bedi and Mallika Sherawat, to show support to Clinton.

Sonam opened her speech by saying, "Most people in America often forget how much their political system affects the lives of people all over the world. The results of your elections affect the rest of the world, including India, as much as ours will affect yours. That is why it is important for you to vote and for the right candidate," she said.
She elaborated on why Clinton's rival, Donald Trump, did not deserve to be the next US President. "In this election, you have two candidates representing different moral values. On one side, you have a xenophobic candidate [referring to Clinton's rival Donald Trump], whose campaign platform is built on anti-immigration. It's narrow-minded, hateful, and incredibly naive. South Asians give so much to this country.

"As a young girl, when I used to think of America, it seemed like utopia — a place filled with opportunity and hope, where hard work coupled with dreams could lead to innovation that could change the world. As I was growing up, I realised that the greatest achievements in America were happening because of diversity, not in spite of it. Some of the most important companies in this world, such as Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon, are shining examples of how the work of immigrants, from different backgrounds, are transforming and connecting the world in the most incredible way. That's why it is important that these developments shouldn't be curbed.

"We cannot let a man who stands for all the wrong values, and with no humility, relentlessly pandering to the worst of our natures, undermine the great work that has already been done," she said, holding rapt attention of her audience. Sonam voiced support for Clinton by stressing on woman power. "In this race, there is a woman candidate who has worked as a public servant for over 40 years, bringing people together from all walks of life. It's because of US that for the first time in all of history, a woman will become the world's most powerful person. Think about that for a second. There's a girl somewhere being born right now who will contribute to this country and be able to look at Hillary Clinton and know her dreams no longer have limits."
