A city choir brings you an opportunity to welcome Yuletide season while helping a deserving cause

Christmas is  a few weeks away and cakes and carols are already getting ready. In the midst of festive mood, Bangalore will hear choral pieces from Cecilian Choir that consists of a group of 35 singers from different walks of life.

The choir conducted by Louise Pinto and Joan De Nazareth holds a charity show every year before  Christmas to help the poor and the disabled. The proceeds from this year's show will go to Sumanahalli, the Village of People of Good Heart which helps treat and rehabilitate those afflicted by leprosy and HIV.
"We love singing and enjoy being together. What makes us really happy is that we can help the needy with our music. Every year we come together and decide on a community which needs our help the most," says Louise Pinto, who is also the music director of the choir.
The choir has supported many causes with the funds generated by the concerts since its formation in 1982, under the leadership of Dr Theodore Periera, who was also the member of the world famous Sistine Choir.

With Oscar Menezes, Kurien Venky and Joan De Nazareth leading the team, many in the are not a permanent part of it but have come forward to volunteer for the cause.
But the core team includes Rebecca Thomas on the piano, Maya Mascarenhas on keyboards, Robin Colaco on lead guitar, Nestor Lasrado on bass guitar and Santosh Victor on drums.

"We will start with old and new light musicals like Listen to the Stars and Razel Dazel. The second half will be a beautiful cantata with narrations of the birth tale of Christ in between carols," says Louise.

The members find time from their daily engagements to come together at this time of the year and sing carols in celebration of Christmas. Louise runs a play school and unlike many others in the choir, is formally trained in piano.
