Spooked by train horn, man falls on tracks

In a freak accident, which could be the first of its kind, a 40-year-old man died after being spooked by a train horn and falling off the platform onto the tracks and being run over yesterday morning.

The accident happened at Khandeshwar railway station when a CST-bound local was coasting into the station from Panvel.u00a0



According to eyewitnesses, the motorman sounded the horn, which startled Ankush P Jagtap, who was walking on the platform, causing him to lose balance and fall onto the tracks.


Jagdish Prasad, who was beside the victim at the time of the incident, said, “We were waiting for the train and this man was walking slowly on the platform in the opposite direction of the approaching train. To alert him, the motorman sounded the horn and the startled man fell onto the tracks.”

Legs amputated
The train ran over the victim, after which and he was rushed MGM hospital in Kamothe. Doctors were forced to amputate both his legs, but he succumbed later in the evening.
