Legend goes that in 1528, Hernan Cortes brought the decadent Aztec tradition of chocolate to Spain. So precious was this gift that only the monks were allowed to manufacture chocolate strictly for the Spanish aristocracy.

The head monk, San Churro, witnessed many miracles of chocolate including the healing of the Queen of Spain and made it his life's work to spread the 'secret' of chocolate across Europe.

Today, the legend of San Churro has found its way to the overpopulated lanes of Waterfield Road, Bandra and promises to bring to you the sun-speckled slice of Spanish froth that's most parts ratatouille and all parts deliciously chewy. Chocolate this good will make you dance the mambo in the streets.

Slowly, we settle in to this gorgeous-looking Spanish Chocolateria and go through the long exhaustive list of soul-sweetening options. We began with the Churro Medio (Rs 375). This classic Spanish treat is San Churro's specialty. Churros (Spanish doughnuts) are made fresh to order and served with a pot of melted couvertureu00a0 chocolate. Avant-garde caramel and a dark buttery Chocolate dip accompanied the Churros.

(milk and white Chocolate dips are also available). Extra points must be awarded to the dip that was a heady concoction of chocolate, sugar, butter, brandy and coffee. Strewn with copious amounts of Cinnamon, the Churros delivered an oven-fresh, melt-in-your-mouth experience.

Next, the Tiramisu (Rs 150) was a soliloquy of sweet flavors. This dessert was perfect and was served as a lovely caramelised coated cloud. This super-simple Italian dessert actually benefits from being made ahead; allowing all the lovely flavours to mingle and we suspect that the Tiramisu is made earlier on in the day. It was light and fulfilling with the correct cake-y texture that a Tiramisu should possess. All in all, a warm delight for the chocolate connoisseurs of Mumbai and a superb destination to indulge in a delicious dessert or coffee after dinner.
