Three dead bodies were allegedly seen floating on the waters close to the shore at Pachu Bandar in Vasai, by local villagers late in the night on Saturday. The locals promptly informed the police about them. However, cops only arrived the next morning and could find only one of the bodies.

Dayanand Koli, a fisherman who stays near Pachu Bandar, said, “I was fishing on Saturday night with other fishermen in the sea, when we saw three dead bodies floating on the water. We informed the police about this, but they only reached the spot the next morning.” Koli says that due to high tide, the other two bodies may have been swept back into the sea.

However, the local Vasai police say they only received a call about one body around 11 pm on Saturday night. Nandkishor Bhosle-Patil, senior police inspector at Vasai police station, said, “We only found one unidentified decomposed body from the sea. It is true that we got a call in Saturday night about this incident. We don’t think there are more bodies in the sea; we got a call only for one dead body.”

Bhosle-Patil added that the deceased, a male around 30 to 35 years old, had drowned at least a week ago. Police are yet to identify him, as the body has decomposed. Other villagers told this paper that since the area is known to be a popular picnic spot, they believe that the three deceased may also have come there for a trip a week ago, and drowned.
