Asked about maintenance of the lifts, which is another major issue, he said, “We are going to ensure regular maintenance of elevators, not only in Kamala Nehru Hospital but all buildings of PMC. For routine maintenance we will issue annual contracts soon.”

PMC has reserved funds worth Rs 1 crore for maintenance of elevators in this year’s budget. Patients and their relatives visiting the hospital werein for relief at the positive change. “Till yesterday only two lifts were functioning. Today I didn’t face any crowd, as almost all lifts started functioning. The hospital administration should ensure that the situation remains the same,” said Ashok Gogle, whose pregnant wife is in the hospital.

PMC acting health chief Dr ST Pardeshi said, “It is the responsibility of the technical department to ensure smooth functioning of elevators. While we were following up on the issue for many days, they finally acted only after the news appeared in newspapers.”
