Some of the Doric columns meant for the Town Hall imported from England were found to be shorter than the stipulated length as the plan had drastically changed midway and were instead used for the construction of the Byculla Church.

In the early years of the Bombay University, the Town Hall was the venue of the Matriculation Examinations. In fact, the first batch of graduates from the University, including Mahadeo Govind Ranade and Ramakrishna Gopal Bhandarkar, gave their examinations in the Town Hall!

This neo-classical building is 200 feet long and 100 feet deep with Corinthian interiors, a long façade with three porticos featuring eight fluted Doric columns and an approach of 30 steps.
