Three men robbed a businessman carrying Rs 5 lakh with him on a bus yesterday. One of the accused was chased down and nabbed by Govandi police minutes later, and the money recovered from him. His two accomplices, however, are on the run.

1. Choudhary was seated in a bus on his way to APMC Market when the three robbers came and sat next to him on the bus

A cop said that the victim, identified as Jivaram Bhuraram Choudhary (28), runs a family business, and was on his way to APMC Market to pay for goods he had bought previously.

2. Showing him a blade, one of the accused forced him to part with his bag of cash without raising the alarm

The arrested accused Rajesh Dattaram Pawar (22), who is a resident of Wadala, had been monitoring the businessman’s movements with the intention of robbing him. Last afternoon, Choudhary collected Rs 5.03 lakh from three of his grocery stores in Cheetah Camp and Shivaji Nagar.

3. As soon as the bus halted, the goons ran out, with Choudhary chasing them; two constables saw this and joined the race

While Choudhary was on his way to the market in a bus, the accused accosted him. Threatening the complainant into submission with a blade, they snatched his bagful of cash.

4. The constables finally nabbed the accused who was fleeing with the cash; the other two, however, managed to escape

As soon as the bus halted at a stop, the trio dismounted and started running. Choudhary tried to chase them, shouting for help. Two constables from the DCP squad Satish Tingle Patil and Jayvant Parab were at the beat chowkie. As soon as they heard Choudhary’s cries for help, they nabbed Pawar, and recovered the money he had robbed.

Cops revealed that the arrested accused has been denying the crime, and has claimed that the two absconders put the bag in his hands and fled from the spot.

Assistant Police Inspector Popat Salunkhe from Mankhurd police station, said, “Choudhary was on his way to the market in order to pay back the money for goods bought for his grocery shop. When he was on his way to the market, three accused attacked him and snatched the bag possessing the amount. Later one was held while other two fled from the spot.”
