A 26-year-old woman was allegedly shot at by three unidentified assailants at her residence in Dwarka area of southwest district on Tuesday morning.

According to the police, the incident took place at around 10.30 am in Dwarka's sector-23 area. Neighbours made a PCR call and narrated the issue to cops. The victim has been identified as Geeta, who has been residing with here second husband at Bharthal village in Dwarka.

"Three unidentified assailants allegedly opened fire at her at the gate of her residence. She took three bullets in her stomach. After that she was rushed to the Ayushman hospital where she is undergoing treatment and is said to be critical," said AK Ojha, DCP, southwest district.

A case under Section 307 of IPC (attempt to murder) has been registered against unidentified persons and a hunt is on to nab them. "Prima-facie it seems to be a case of personal rivalry as the accused attacked the victim in a planned manner. Geeta had married a person with a criminal background. His name can not be disclosed due to investigation purposes," said the police official.

Illicit relations
"This person belongs to Nangal village, where T3 of Delhi airport has been created now. After the marriage he got suspicious that Geeta has an illicit relationship with his cousin. As per information given by the neighbours, he then divorced Geeta. A few years ago he was arrested and sent to jail in a criminal case," said Ojha.

The officer informed MiD DAY that in the meantime Geeta came in contact with Sanjeet, who is a property dealer, and got married to him in 2010. After returning from prison, her first husband found out about this. "This might be a reason behind her attack. It seems that the assailants came to kill both, Sanjeet and Geeta. But, Sanjeet was not present at the house when the incident took place," the DCP said.
