Deepika, who has been part of commercial entertainers like 'Om Shanti Om', 'Love Aaj Kal', 'Cocktail', 'Race 2', 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani', 'Chennai Express', 'Ram Leela' and others, seems keen to explore the off-beat genre with 'Finding Fanny', directed by Homi Adajania.

"A lot of people told me it's a risk. I did not think of as a risk, but a brave move on my part to do it (film). I went with my instinct.. What my heart said. I trust Homi (director) and his vision," Deepika told reporters here today at the promotional event of the film. Deepika had earlier worked with Homi in his last directorial venture 'Cocktail'. "For me, the story of a film comes first and character next. I was looking to do something different and I am glad I did this film.

As we work in a Hindi language film, we are used to it. But when you do an English language film it is a different experience and it takes time to get into this space. The challenge was to perform in English language," Deepika said. 'Finding Fanny' is set in Goa and it required Deepika to speak in Konkani language. The actress said she loved the experience of talking in her mother tongue.

The film is a quirky comedy with star cast including Deepika Padukone, Arjun Kapoor, Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia. The film is shot in English and dubbed in Hindi by the actors. On her experience on working with Dimple Kapadia, Deepika, who had earlier worked with her, said the actress treats her like her daughter.

"When we were shooting for 'Cocktail' she used to take me out for lunch...shopping. She pampers me... Spoils me. She is really a lovely person... I cannot express in words what she means to me," Deepika said.

Homi and Arjun, who were also present at the event, said that they were happy to work with veteran actors like Naseeruddin Shah and Pankaj Kapoor. "I was offered this film after Homi saw me in 'Ishaqzaade'. I was surprised (that) a director like him had thought of me in this vision. I was looking to do something different. I went by my instinct to do this film. It was an opportunity to work with experienced, noted actors like Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia. I did it (film) for experience," Arjun said. Homi said that he was happy to see the two talented actors Shah and Pankaj in the same frame.

"It was easy to work with them. They both are thorough professionals and have different approach towards acting. They are brothers-in-laws in real life and I enjoyed watching them in the same frame. Also I am proud of how Deepika and Arjun performed in the film," Homi added.

The film is a comical story about five people who venture out to find Stefanie Fernandes (Fanny) and in the process they discover a strange sense of solace and love for each other, and end up seeing a point to their previously pointless lives. 'Finding Fanny' will release on September 12.
