By Karan Mathur, Founder, Karmatic Yoga & Sound Healing
For centuries, people have come to Rishikesh in search of silence. Ironically, today, it’s sound that is leading thousands toward healing? and increasingly, toward new careers. I never imagined that the soft hum of a Tibetan bowl or the deep vibrations of a gong would one day become part of corporate wellness programs, trauma therapy sessions, or global online courses.
But here we are. As the founder of Karmatic Yoga & Sound Healing, I’ve spent the last few years teaching sound healing in Rishikesh and across India. What began as a deeply personal practice is now a booming profession, with structured training programs, serious income potential, and a genuine impact on people’s mental and emotional well-being.
What Exactly Is Sound Healing?
It’s more than just a wellness trend. Sound healing uses specific vibrations through instruments like singing bowls, tuning forks, gongs, and handpans to relax the nervous system, shift emotional blockages, and restore balance to the body. Ancient Indian texts call it Nada Yoga, but today, it is also backed by science. Studies show that certain sound frequencies can reduce anxiety, regulate sleep patterns, and even improve focus.
Turning Passion Into Profession
We offer sound healing training through a three-level certification program:
- Level 1 (Foundations): Basics of sound theory, bowl handling, and energy centres
- Level 2 (Intermediate): Gong work, tuning forks, chakra-based healing, and emotional processing
- Level 3 (Mastery): Trauma-informed care, sound layering, handpan healing, and building a professional practice
Each level is a 50-hour intensive, delivered over a minimum of two days. Though many opt for residential, immersive experiences in places like Rishikesh, Goa, and Mysore.
Level III is a 7-day intensive and immersive course. One may opt for Level I / II Sound Healing Teacher Training Course if they have less time.
What’s surprising is the kind of people signing up. Not just yoga teachers or wellness seekers, but psychologists, corporate HR professionals, musicians, and even full-time parents looking for a career pivot.
Real Work. Real Impact. Real Income
Our trained practitioners are doing everything from:
- Hosting sound bath events in cities
- Running one-on-one healing sessions
- Leading corporate wellness programs
- Teaching online workshops and classes globally
- Curating sound journeys at retreats in India and abroad
One of our students, a former advertising professional, now travels between Goa and Bali as a full-time sound therapist. Another integrates sound into her counselling sessions for trauma survivors. And with burnout becoming the new buzzword in boardrooms, corporate India is slowly but surely opening its doors to sound as a form of stress recovery.
Why This Matters Now More Than Ever
India already gave the world yoga. Sound healing, rooted in the same wisdom, is the next wave. But unlike yoga, which has taken decades to find structure, we're aiming to bring professionalism and credibility to sound healing right from the start.
That’s why at Karmatic Yoga & Sound Healing, we’re working to build India’s first Sound Healing Fellowship Program, integrating scientific research, hands-on practice, and ethics training. We believe it’s time for India to lead the world again, this time, not just in silence, but in sound.
Sound is not just what we hear; it’s what we feel. And for many of us, it’s becoming a calling, a career, and a contribution to a calmer world.
