Apoorva: Can't be both!

I can never be the producer and director. There is bound to be a clash of interest. As a director, I may want to shoot in a stadium but as a producer, I will make do at a sports centre to cut costs. That would mean compromising at every stage. I'd rather only be the director. Moreover, I will only produce those films which I cannot directu00a0-- films that are on a budget and don't have big names.

In Hide & Seek, the producer is the star!
This is something that I have had to contend with. Everyone tells me that I am the well-known name associated with the movie. But each of the actors in Hide & Seek have made their identities in their earlier films. Arjan in Fashion, Ayaz in Jaane Tu... and Sammir as TV anchor especially during the IPL. As for the newcomers, there is something engaging in them.

What made you turn to production?
I have produced this film for Shawn. He has assisted me in all my films from Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost to Mission Istanbul and even when I was an assistant director for Boom, he was my assistant. This movie is a launchpad for him as a director. We were in talks with certain production houses but nothing materialised. Finally, when I approached Moser Baer, things worked out. We have worked on a fixed budget. Obviously, we could not afford big names.

You could have asked one of your star friends to do a song or cameo?
Yes, I did contemplate having Abhishek Bachchan or Vivek Oberoi but ultimately I decided that I might as well go without a big star.
