O'Romeo movie review: The audacity of this ambition!

Director: Vishal Bhardwaj Actors: Shahid Kapoor, Triptii Dimri Rating: 3 stars For the most part, O’Romeo feels like two separate films. One, starring Shahid Kapoor, with self-indulgent action set-pieces, and extended ‘item’ numbers, plus crackling dance moves. The other, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, carrying the story forward with curious cool-cat characters, mock-ironic one-liners, and the general Vishal-vibe to it all. For the former, consider the opening sequence of a hammer-sickle blood-fest inside Mumbai’s Liberty Cinema that’s supposed to set the film’s tone (it doesn’t). For the latter, gawk and cackle at the classical singer, cop Pathare (Rahul Deshpande), expressing his memos through musical notes! Once you reconcile yourself to this bipolar nature/order of entertainment, onscreen — it becomes easier to connect and enjoy the film for its own worth. Albeit bloated enough, hence, with a running time of 178.41 minutes, to be precise. And when exactly, in that timeline, does that switch in your brain occur? Certainly not over the introductory 30-40 minutes, when there are so many songs, as badly spaced, they seem like loo-breaks — that you’d rather hear as YouTube playlist for a soundtrack, separately. Which also makes O’Romeo a fair example of a movie that lowers the expectations from the get go. And that for whatever happens from thereon feels progressively better, along the way. It’s also because backstories for the central plot unravel over time. They do answer key questions popping in your head, sufficiently. Some amount of patience is key. Assume, always, the killings take place first. They’re explained only much later. To begin with, it’s pretty lit that for a full-on revenge drama titled after the male protagonist — the one actually avenging crimes from her past is the female lead (strikingly serene, Triptii Dimri). She lost her childhood sweetheart and husband (Vikrant Massey) to a don (Avinash Tiwary; an absolute beast), who was his employer. On her hit-list are also cops. The mob often operated in cahoots with Mumbai police. The film’s primarily set in 1995, post-Bombay blasts (1993), and Babri masjid demolition (1992), when the underworld had evidently been partitioned over religion. At the other end, equally, is an Intelligence Bureau officer (Nana Patekar; killing it, as usual, with his inimitable swag) determined to clean up the gangland from within. Just do that roll call again: Besides Nana, Vikrant, Avinash, even conventional eye-candies for side-bars, namely Tamannaah Bhatia, Disha Patani — all of whom play lead roles, usually. What strikes you is their willingness to participate in a film that wholly ups its playing field as a result. At the centre-forward, of course, is Shahid. Playing Nana’s brutal hit-man, he seems all too aware that he has to deliver a hit pic, being the mean-machine, alongside. You can sense him giving it his all. This trigger-happy character — with a den in the dockyard, George Michael earring, swigging whiskey from a rifle-shaped bottle — seems quite in line with enraged, antsy, antagonist-types being adored as movie heroes, lately (Animal, Dhurandhar, etc). For a second, I felt Shahid had modelled his hair-beard on Allu Arjun (Pushpa). Speaking of which, hard to tell, why his character, originally, Hussain ‘Ustara’ (Razor), is named Arjun Ustara, instead. Still, there’s a star in Ustara! He’s based on a true story by crime journalist S Hussain Zaidi in the anthology, Mafia Queens of Mumbai (authored with Jane Borges). I’ve anyway saved that 60-page chapter, Femme Fatale, to read after the film. Just as I did with the chapter, The Matriarch of Kamathipura, from the same book, that Sanjay Leela Bhansali based his super-hit mob-opera Gangubai Kathiawadi (2022) on. While real-life text elevates fiction, of course, the book will be nothing like the film. The brief behind which, foremost, appears to be the audience wants “scale” at the cinema — down to the plaza de toros, for a bull-fight, with the main villain (Avinash) as the matador in Spain! Yet, it’s the more intimate scenes, even that action sequence set inside the Mumbai local train, that feel cult like Kaminey (2009)! Which was Shahid’s first collab with writer-director-composer-producer Vishal Bhardwaj. They stepped out together twice after (Haider, Rangoon). Whatever you may think of those films, or any other by Vishal — rare auteur marrying middle-of-the-road to the mainstream (this is his most patently ‘commercial’ work yet) — what you can’t deny is the audacity of the ambition. Barring Pataakha (2018), perhaps. O’Romeo is, by no means, the exception. O’yeah, give it a go.

Palaash Muchhal gets relief in Rs 10 crore defamation suit

Singer-filmmaker Palaash Muchhal had earlier filed a legal lawsuit against actor-producer Vidnyan Mane for defaming him. The latter had accused the singer of cheating him financially. He also made strong statements about Palaash Muchhal's cancelled wedding with cricketer Smriti Mandhana. Now, Palaash has received interim relief in the ongoing lawsuit from the Bombay High Court. Bombay HC grants relief to Palaash Muchhal As per the latest development in the case, the Bombay High Court has issued an order against Vidnyan Mane in the Rs 10 crore defamation case. Palash's lawyer, Shreyansh R Mithar,e confirmed the news to Hindustan Times. Palaash's lawyer says this is a positive step in their case, adding that the next hearing in the matter is scheduled for March 11. Palaash had earlier reacted to Vidnyan's claims via a note on social media, revealing that the legal notice was sent by his lawyer, Shreyansh Mithare. He wrote, “A legal notice for defamation of Rs 10 crore has been sent by my lawyer Shreyansh Mithare to Sangli-based Vidnyan Mane for his false, outrageous and highly defamatory accusations made against me.”  Addressing the accusations and dismissing Mane's claim, he wrote, “In light of the allegations made by Sangli-based Vidnyan Mane on social media, I wish to state that these claims against me are entirely baseless and factually incorrect.”  Vidnyan Mane's allegations Vidnyan Mane had claimed that he was cheated by Palaash of Rs 40 lakh, while also accusing him of being unfaithful to Smriti. According to PTI, Mane had approached police in Maharashtra's Sangli district alleging that he was cheated by Palaash. The complaint stated that the two met in December 2023, where Vidnyan showed interest in co-producing Palaash's film Nazaria. Bhumi Pednekkar

Bhumi Pednekkar opens up about the massive failure of Lady Killer

Bhumi Pednekkar is currently riding high on the success of her latest release, Daldal. The actress, who has witnessed an illustrious career so far and continues to taste the sweetness of success, has had one film in her career which is written in history for the wrong reasons.  Bhumi starred in the 2023 film Lady Killer alongside Arjun Kapoor, which turned out to be a huge box office bomb. In fact, it is often touted as one of the biggest box-office bombs in the history of Indian cinema. When she appeared on Sit with Hitlist, she got candid about the failure of the film and made some shocking revelations. Bhumi Pednekkar recalls a lot of Lady Killer was never shot Bhumi recalls the first time she faced failure was in 2023, eight years after getting into the showbiz, where she says, “A film of mine wasn't accepted.” Notably, the film grossed only Rs 38,000 on its opening day and sold just 293 tickets nationwide. Talking of the Lady Killer, Bhumi shares, “The script that we read was a complete script, and there was a large part of that film that wasn't shot, that was put out. So there was an incomplete film that was put out. I wish I knew better because if I were somebody that belonged to these systems, I would have figured out a way, manoeuvred it better.” Recalling being in shock, she says, “I was in shock. I was like, ‘What is going on?’ We did not shoot about 35 per cent of the film. It's such a big mystery to me that I was suddenly just told that the film's being released.” Bhumi shares they were told about budget constraints, saying, “I think what I was told was that the film did go over budget, and it was kind of stretched out, and it went on for a long. But I don't know where do we fit in this equation because none of those things happen because of any of the actors.” Bhumi Pednekkar calls it a dark period of her life The actress further shares how it was a difficult phase of her life to get over the failure. She says, “It was a very heartbreaking time in my life. I was finished. I just didn't know how to recover from that. Because how are you going to go? Who are you going to?” Talking about whose fault the failure could possibly be, Bhumi shared, “It was just nobody's fault. It's such a khichdi in my mind. But it was a decision that the makers took at that point because they felt that was the right thing to do. It was also a time when we had not really recovered as an industry from everything we went through during COVID. These are producers who were in debt and had lost so much money. It was just a mess. “ The actress concludes, “I'm anyway just going to take it as a dark period of my life, and I've moved on.”

Ranveer Singh, tujhe bhot zyada shauk hai salah dene ka, ki jaao sir aap application dedo report kardo thane mein, or tune bhi kar di, theek, or tune bhi kardi, koi chakkar nahi hai. Ab sun meri baat, tumhare neeche jo bhi kaam karta hai na manager, jitne bhi log kaam karte hain, inki detail hai hamare pass, inke ghar ki, kab office jaate hain, kab ghar aate hain, parivaar kaha rehta hai, sabki detail hai hamare pass. Ranveer Singh, you’re very fond of giving advice, telling people to go and file an application and report to the police station, and you did that too, fine, no problem. Now listen to me: everyone who works under you, your manager and all the staff, we have all their details: their homes, when they go to the office, when they return, where their families live, we have everything. We won’t say anything to you; we’ll start targeting them instead. That’s when you’ll come to your senses.)” He further said, "Ranveer Singh tune koi baat bolkar usse mukar gaya na, theek hai, uss liye voice note chor rahe hain tereko, ya toh tu teri baat pe waapas aaja usi pe, nahi toh baat se mukarne ki saza kya hoti hai tujhe bataenge. Araam se baith kar sunna, tu or rohit shetty. Or pure bollywood ko bhi bol raha hu, yah toh time rehte line pe ajana jisko bhi hum call kare, agar nahi aaye, baad mein dekhna hum kya haal karte hain aap logo ka. (Ranveer Singh, you said something and then went back on your word… That’s why I’m leaving this voice note for you – either you return to what you promised, or we’ll show you what the punishment is for backing out. Sit and listen carefully, you and Rohit Shetty. And I’m saying this to the entire Bollywood too: whoever we call should fall in line in time. If you don’t, then later you’ll see what we do to all of you.)” Attacks on Ranveer Singh and Rohit Shetty Shots were fired at filmmaker Rohit Shetty's house in Juhu on February 1. Following the incident, the Mumbai Police nabbed four accused in the case. Days, later, actor Ranveer Singh received a threatening voice message on WhatsApp demanding crores of rupees.

Vikram Bhatt

Supreme Court grants interim bail to Shwetambari Bhatt in cheating case

Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt and his wife Shwetambari Bhatt have been granted interim bail by the Supreme Court of India in a high-profile cheating case involving allegations of misappropriation of funds totalling around Rs 30 crore. The order was passed on Friday by a bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi, bringing temporary relief to the couple after more than two months in custody. Shwetambari Bhatt gets an interim bail from Supreme Court The case dates back to December 7, 2025, when the Rajasthan Police arrested the couple in connection with a complaint filed by Ajay Murdia, founder of Indira IVF and Fertility Centre in Udaipur. Murdia alleged that he had invested large sums in what was presented as a legitimate film project. He claimed that money was taken for the production of films but was allegedly diverted through fabricated bills and deposited into personal accounts rather than being used for filmmaking as promised. Despite their arrest and judicial custody in Udaipur, the Bhatts’ initial applications for bail were rejected earlier this year by the Rajasthan High Court, which said that granting bail at that stage could interfere with the ongoing investigation. All about the case hearing In the Supreme Court hearing, senior counsel for the couple argued against imprisoning the accused before trial and emphasised that pre-trial detention should not be treated as a means of enforcing financial recovery. The top court agreed in part, observing that criminal proceedings cannot be used simply to recover money and that such cases require careful judicial scrutiny. It directed the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Udaipur to release both Vikram Bhatt and Shwetambari on interim bail after they furnish bail bonds and comply with conditions set by the court. Notices were also issued to the complainant and the Rajasthan government, and the matter is now listed for further hearing on February 19, 2026. The couple’s legal team has consistently denied all allegations, maintaining that funds were used in accordance with agreements and that no fraudulent intent was present. With interim bail secured, they are now out of custody while the legal process continues.

Priyanka often covers her daughter’s face with an emoji while sharing pictures on Instagram. The actress has now revealed that she hired security largely for her daughter’s safety. While she appreciates fans’ love, she does not approve of being recorded without consent. Priyanka Chopra on hiring bodyguards Recently, while attending the Golden Globe Awards, Priyanka was spotted with bodyguards. Speaking to Variety, she said, “I am okay with being approached by anyone and taking photos, and they (the guards) know that I love people coming to talk to me. They are there to make sure we’re not being recorded without consent.” She further added, “That’s my biggest issue with everyone having cellphones. It happens often, especially with my daughter. We’re in the park or having ice cream, and suddenly I’ll see it online. My security is for that reason. Otherwise, I don’t need it. Nobody’s gonna kill me.” Priyanka's daughter turned four last month.  Priyanka on marriage with Nick In the same interview, Chopra addressed the gossip surrounding her relationship with husband Nick Jonas and said, “We’re eight years in. If people want to keep waiting for it to implode, that’s their choice. I stopped thinking about it. I don’t know what it was about us that rubbed people the wrong way. I think there was the intercultural nature of it — different countries, different religions, and the age gap. It was very hurtful. And we both, instead of looking outward, just looked at each other and were like, ‘It doesn’t matter.’ So it’s like water off a duck’s back now.” Priyanka Chopra’s upcoming projects Workwise, Priyanka will be seen in filmmaker S. Still from Fitoor

Fitoor producer Pragyaa Kapoor calls film 'masterclass in scriptwriting'

It’s rare to see a wholesome romantic drama continue to resonate with the same enthusiasm it enjoyed at the time of its release — and Fitoor is one such film. Starring Katrina Kaif and Aditya Roy Kapur, the film has completed a decade since its release and continues to remain relevant. Marking 10 years of Fitoor, producer Pragya Kapoor reflected on how the film made her fall in love with filmmaking. Pragya Kapoor reflects on Fitoor Looking back, Pragyaa revealed that the film’s script deeply shaped her understanding of cinema. “I remember the first time I read Fitoor. It was written by Abhishek Kapoor and Supratik Sen. That script is a masterclass in scriptwriting. I’ve read a lot of scripts since then- both before and after- and I think I learned so much about filmmaking from that script. Honestly, it’s one of our best-written scripts to date,” she said.           View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by Pragyaa Kapoor (@pragyakapoor_) Pragyaa also shared how Fitoor made her fall in love with producing and became one of the key reasons she chose the profession. “Fitoor opened my eyes to what producing truly is. It made me fall in love with producing, and it’s one of the reasons I am producing today. The visuals and music are still relevant. People continue to post about it and feel nostalgic. That’s the beauty of filmmaking — you don’t make a film for now, you make a film for forever — and I think Fitoor did that,” she added. More about Fitoor Directed by Abhishek Kapoor, Fitoor is a musical romantic drama based on the 1861 novel Great Expectations by Charles Dickens.   It follows Noor, a talented Kashmiri artist, and his lifelong obsession with Firdaus, the daughter of the wealthy and vengeful Begum Hazrat. The film's soundtrack, composed by Amit Trivedi, has gained a cult following over the last decade.
