What's it about: There'su00a0 something about unhappy childhoods that come back to haunt the protagonists when they're trying to put it all behind them the pain, the hurt, everything.

As a young kid, Michael Taylor (Cayden Boyd) didn't get along too well with his ego-tripping father, Charles (Dafoe), whose insecurities began tearing his family apart. It was Michael's mom and Charles' wife Lisa (Roberts), a long-suffering hausfrau, who looked out for him.

Years later, a tragedy forces an older Michael (Reynolds), now writing novels from personal experience, to revisit his family and his father. Lisa dies in an accident just before her graduation. Tensions abound and tempers fly. But naturally...

What's hot: The star-studded cast proves that the script had its heart in the right place. The confrontations between Cayden and Dafoe are to watch out for. Julia is brilliant as always. The camerawork is great but the film's pace lugs as if caught in bumper-to-bumper traffic.

Changing equations and brilliant performances from most of the cast come, but are too few and far between.

What's not:u00a0 Here come real stars to fill the upper skies /And here on earth come emulating flies... /achieve at times a very star-like start /Only, of course, they can't sustain the part.

That by the way is Robert Frost's poem, the title of which inspired the film. I find the film's stars' performances not ably sustained by the film's treatment itself.

What to do: The film is worth one watch solely for the star cast. And yet, you won't miss much if you don't.
