What's it about: There is no one like Rohit Shetty when it comes to contemporary comedies. Forget the logic and the rationaleu00a0-- no one makes you laugh as hard as he does. Golmaal 3 is pure, unadulterated non-stop fun. At the same time, one cannot ignore the amount of effort and detailing that goes into Rohit's films. You may actually have to see them the second time around to gauge what you missed out on during the first viewing. G3 is the story of two families that collide because fate and history decide to do the calling. Pritam (Chakraborty) is tired of the troubles brought upon him by his three sons, Madhav (Warsi), Lucky (Tusshar) and Laxman (Khemu). By chance, he stumbles upon his lost love Geeta (Pathak Shah) who lives with her two sons Gopal (Devgn) and Laxman ( Talpade). Even though years have passed, sparks fly between Pritam and Geeta. Helping them reunite is Dabboo (Kareena), Geeta's next-door neighbour. Chaos follows when Dabboo convinces them to get married. Gopal and Laxman who cannot stand the sight of Pritam's sons are forced to live with them. The madness continues till they're all hit with the reality of their roots, which eventually brings them together. And then the madness continues all over again ufffd.
WHAT'S HOT: Rohit Shetty challenges your imagination. He brings forth multiple characters, crazy confusion, parallel tracks, unbelievable characters, and jaw-dropping action. In most comedies, you come out of the theater remembering some of the highlight sequences. In G3, that's not possible, because you just lose count. All you remember is that you've been laughing all your way before and after the intermission. It's a daunting task handling so many characters but Rohit manages to do complete justice to each. The film begins on a slow note but once it picks up speed, it zooms. The add-on characters like Vasuli (Mukesh Tiwari), Chintu (Ashwini Kalsekar), Daaga and Teja (Vrajesh Hirjee and Sanjay Mishra) and Geeta's father (Prem Chopra) are fabulous. Johnny Lever makes a spectacular comeback as the local don Pappi. His 'Ghajini' act will have you rolling down the aisles. The entire confrontation between the two sets of sons is hilarious. To mention a few highlight sequences would be unfair to the film and the director because this ride is simply unstoppable. In terms of script, this is Rohit's strongest film to date. He borrows the idea from Basu Chaterjee's Khatta Meetha (1978) and then takes it to a new level. The film depends heavily on its screenplay (Yunus Sajawal) and dialogues (Farhad-Sajid and Bunty Rathore)u00a0-- and they make the film what it is. The performances are top-notch as well. Mithun Chakraborty reminds you of the days of yore when he dominated the screen. Ratna Pathak Shah is perfectly cast. Kunal Khemu's poetic dialogues have a lasting impact. Shreyas Talpade adds good support. Arshad Warsi displays his flair for comedy once again. Tusshar Kapoor brings the house down with typical flair. He also raises the bar in his impressive emotional scene, which is sure to make you cry. Ajay Devgn is superb as the volatile and unpredictable Gopal. The energy he brings to his character is unparalleled. The real hero of G3 is undoubtedly Kareena Kapoor who plays her tomboy act to perfection. She's the one who takes the story forward. Look out for her special gaalisu00a0-- they'll be the new buzz words.u00a0
WHAT'S NOT: Some bit of editing would've done the film a world of good. Johnny Lever's jet-ski sequence is a bit stretched and hampers the flow to some extent. Even the fight sequence starring Ajay and Arshad seems to be deliberately added. It's too long without reason.
WHAT TO DO: Golmaal 3 is the best Diwali treat this year. Prepare to laugh your guts out. It's the funniest film of the year so far...u00a0u00a0
