Priyanka Chopra feels about being the youngestu00a0actress ever to win the National Award
Priyanka Chopra is on cloud nine after winning the National Award on Sunday for Best Actress in Madhur Bhandarkar's Fashion. She's currently in New York shooting for Sajid Nadiadwala's Anjaana Anjaani with Ranbir Kapoor.
Here, Priyanka reacts to her National Award win...
What was your first reaction when you heard you had won?
It was 4.30 in the morning when Madhur called and informed me (He was the first to inform her). I was completely in shock! We both started screaming with joy on the phone! I had just about wrapped my shoot for the day and was ready to catch up on my sleep when the call came.u00a0
How did your parents and brother react?
I was bombarded with calls from friends and family soon after! The conversation with my parents was very emotional. I'm very happy that I have been able to make them so proud!u00a0
Whom would you credit winning the award to?
Most of the credit goes to Madhur and Ronnie. They were the ones who always believed in me and pursued me until I agreed to do the film. This was even after I told them that I didn't think I was capable of playing such a tough role. I share this honour with them! The credit should also be given to the wonderful cast and crew of Fashion, without whom the film would be incomplete. Also my family who put up with all my moods and tantrums when I was shooting for Fashion!
Whom did you call first? How did you celebrate in New York?
Actually, my family called me first, even before I had time to react. I am away from most of my friends and family while shooting in New York. But Siddharth Anand was very sweet and took me and the rest of the crew out for a nice quite dinner to celebrate, the next day!
Being in NY, are you missing the reactions of your friends and family in India?
For sure. I would have loved to see the look on my parents' faces when they heard the news... to see the joy and pride! But I have to thank my family and friends because they have been calling, mailing, SMSing every minute to congratulate me and shower me with praise and love.u00a0 It's not as good as being there in person with everyone but it definitely feels great!
Were you expecting to win?
To be honest, I was hoping to win but never really expected it.u00a0
Will it be the most special of your awards?
The National Awards have so much talent in their list of nominations, including the superb regional language films. It is definitely one of the most prestigious awards in the country and very special for me.
Looking back as an actress what was the most difficult thing you had to do in your role in Fashion?
I think Meghna's breakdown scene and the build-up to it, where she is shown to be heavily involved with drugs and alcohol was the most difficult part of the film for me. I had to dig deep inside and connect with the hopelessness and the pain that Meghna was feeling at that time.u00a0
Has it been your most difficult role yet?
Playing Meghna Mathur was definitely one of my most difficult roles. But by God's grace, I've been offered some great parts and am getting the opportunity to work with the most talented directors... and so the bar just keeps getting raised for me!
Who has called and texted you till now?
Everyone has been so gracious with their congratulatory messages and wonderful words. All my co-stars, directors, members of the crew, friends and family... the list is endless. My friends on Twitter, Facebook, Orkut, etc have also been wonderful with the outpouring of love and support.
Many of your Bollywood friends want you to throw a party for winning the award. Are you planning to host one when you come back?
I know... they are so sweet.u00a0 But I will plan a nice big party when I return... for sure!u00a0u00a0
There has been controversy regarding the national awards already with a jury member saying some nominees called them up when they were taking the call. Comment.
It would be unfair for me to comment since I am unaware of any controversy and also given the fact that I am a winner this year. I would however add that we must not disrespect the process or the decisions made.
A few milestones in the last 3 years...u00a0
Fashion, Kaminey, What's Your Raashee?u00a0-- these films have helped me push the boundaries as an actor and I do believe that they are my best work till date.u00a0 There are so many others... directors and co-stars that I have got a chance to work with, the awards I have won in the past one year... every achievement is a milestone for me!u00a0
Apparently you're the youngest actress to win the national award. Comment.
Really? I wasn't aware of that fact! If it's true, then I am truly honoured and it is the icing on my cake of victory!u00a0 I'm just so thankful to have been given the opportunity to essay a role like this so early in my career! And to be recognised with an honour like this makes it even more special.
