Cannes Film Festival is probably the second most talked about event after Oscars. With daily updates and gossip from the 63rd edition of the festival, CS gives you some trivia on the world's oldest and most prestigious film festivals:
Founded in 1946, the festival is held annually (usually in May) at the Palais des Festivals et des Congr s, in the resort town of Cannes, in the south of France.
In 1983, a new, much bigger Palais des Festivals et des Congr s was built to host the festival. It was nicknamed 'The Bunker' and provoked many reactions against it.
Given the massive media exposure, the non-public festival is attended by many movie stars and is a popular venue for film producers to launch their new films.
The most prestigious award given out at Cannes is the Palme d'Or (Golden Palm) for the best film.
The jurors of the festival are chosen from a wide range of international artists, based on their body of work and respect from their peers. This year, American film director Tim Burton is the president of the Jury.
This year, from the Indian cinema, Udaan got an entry in the festival after a gap of seven years.
