*u00a0Michelle LaVaughn Robinson was born on January 17, 1964, in Chicago, Illinois, to Fraser Robinson, a city water plant employee and Marian, a secretary at Spiegel's catalogue store.

*u00a0She then attended Princeton University and later Harvard Law School before returning to Chicago to work at the law firm Sidley Austin, where she met her future husband, Barack Obama.
