Remo's rhapsody

If you'd been missing India's original pop star Remo Fernandes, let us tell you that's he back with a number in the upcoming film Na Ghar Ke Na Ghaat Ke. Remo, who last topped the charts with Pyaar Ka Signal from Bhagam Bhag, talks his heart to CS:

Pop goes flop

Bollywood has never been my bread and butter, but something that I could do on the side. I tried keeping the individual pop/rock flag flying, but unfortunately without any support from record companies and music channels. Most fellow artists have got lured into Bollywood, and it's a losing battle for me.

I think that the need of the hour is to unite to create a parallel music scene. Then music companies will have to bow down and record and promote artists, as otherwise they would be losing out on the large audiences which pop/rock shows attract. But if one or two artists try to do it alone, as I have tried for years, it is not going to hold much water.



India calling

Besides live concerts, I have recorded an album called India Beyond u2013 Buddha Bar has signed on some of the tracks and it has been released in the USA, under the Miami-based Opium Garden compilation. It found no takers in India at all! I have released a song and video called India, I Cry on Facebook and Youtube. I am also composing music for a couple of films a Bollywood production called Go Goa for Sunill Khosla, and a new film by National Award-winning Goan director Rajendra Talak.

My kind of music....

I listen to all kinds of music, from western and Indian classical to folk to jazz to blues to Chinese to African to Mauritian to literally everything from everywhere. The music just needs to be inspired and not mass produced.

When I'm free...

I love drawing and writing, both of which find expression through music writing through my lyrical compositions, and drawing through my album cover designs and concert posters. But there's a new passion I've discovered, and that is film making. I've scripted, directed and edited my last two music videos, Muchacha Latina and India, I Cry.
