Rituparna Sengupta has made her mark in Bengali cinema, but is still trying to pave a concrete road in B-town
Rituparna Sengupta has made her mark in Bengali cinema, but is still trying to pave a concrete road in B-town.
Though the work of Juhi Chawla, Rani Mukherjee, Nutan and Shabana Azmi inspire her, Rituparna lists five roles she'd love to play and why:
1 Umrao of Umrao Jaan
The character of Umrao is an epitome of a woman engulfed in a emotional whirlpool. I am sure any actress would jump to do this role, but Rekhaji's portrayal as Umrao is legendary.
2 Simran of DDLJ
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is one of the textbooks in the history of Hindi cinema. It is the most popular film till date and any actress wanting to do commercial cinema would love to play Simran. The film is a love story with every emotion in its right place. The film, according to me, is a marriage between two-value systems and Kajol perfectly fits the bill.
3 Usha of Bhumika
Smita Patil's acting as Usha is worth watching. She gives an outstanding performance as she transforms herself in the film's course from a full-of-life teenager to a wiser, but deeply hurt middle-aged woman. Smitaji is the finest actress Indian film industry ever had and I find her inspiring.u00a0
4 Gulabo of Pyaasa
Waheeda Rehman as Gulabo in Pyaasa created wonders on the screen. Pyaasa is a beautiful lyrical story carved by Guru Dutt, and the character of Gulabo was his gift to filmmaking. Waheedaji is a tremendous actress. The way her filmography travelled from Pyaasa to Guide still remains a mystery to me!
5u00a0Pooja of Dil To Pagal Hai
Madhuri is my favourite actress and words will fall short to describe her talent. She is a complete woman -- an actress, a wife and a successful mother. Her commercial success is till date unmatched by any other actress on the silver screen.
A tremendous dancer, in Dil To... she flaunts her beauty through her dance and sets the screen on fire in the film.
