From romantic hits to peppy tracks, Rishi Kapoor's much-loved songs

Rishi Kapoor is one of the most loved actors in Bollywood, and even after his demise, people remember him through his iconic films and beloved songs. Rishi Kapoor, who passed away on April 30, 2020, left behind a great void in the industry. As April 30 marks Rishi Kapoor’s death anniversary, here are 5 of the late actor’s best movie songs, which were hits of their time: 'Tu Tu Hai Wahi' (Yeh Vaada Raha): A famous song from the movie 'Yeh Vaada Raha' (1982), 'Tu Tu Hai Wahi' is a calm and beautiful song that speaks about commitment toward your partner. The film stars Rishi Kapoor and Poonam Dhillon in the lead roles. 'Main Shayar Toh Nahin' (Bobby): This song is one of the biggest hits of its time. Also from Rishi Kapoor’s film 'Bobby,' this song is both melodic and attractive, and you might want to add it to your playlist and enjoy it whenever you want. 'Ek Main Aur Ek Tu' (Khel Khel Mein): From the movie 'Khel Khel Mein,' featuring his wife Neetu Kapoor, this song was a great hit of its time. It talks about the butterflies you feel after falling in love. 'Bachna Ae Haseeno' (Hum Kisi Se Kam Nahin): This one has to be on the list; Rishi Kapoor’s dance gained immense love after the release of this full-of-energy song. 'Bachna Ae Haseeno' from the movie 'Hum Kisi Se Kam Nahin' is a great party number even in this era. 'Om Shanti Om' (Karz): Another blockbuster song, 'Om Shanti Om,' is from the movie 'Karz.' A very tuneful and euphonic song, this one was also a famed song of its time and is liked by the present generation too. It is very difficult to choose any one or two songs from Rishi Kapoor’s multiple chartbusters. But these five are among those that we think should be added to your playlist. From romantic hits to peppy dance numbers, Rishi Kapoor's songs provide choices for every mood. Rishi passed away on April 30, 2020. He was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2018 and went to the US for medical treatment. However, due to a relapse in early 2020, he breathed his last at the age of 67.

International Dance Day! Kruti Mahesh on choreographer credit

For over a century, dance and song have been a distinguishing element in Indian cinema. Even as the years passed by, many films were remembered for their song and dance routines. While dance numbers and choreographies play a vital role in Indian cinema and storytelling, the choreographers are still struggling to get their due credit. At the beginning of this year, well-known choreographer Bosco Martis, one half of the famous duo Bosco-Ceasar, raised the point of them not getting due credit even as his and Ceasar’s choreography in 'Fighter' went viral.  Bosco’s post on Instagram about choreographer credit saw him get the support of his peers and also made filmmakers take notice of the issue. Today, on International Dance Day, dancer and choreographer Kruti Mahesh shared her thoughts on the matter of credit and what the industry needs to do. Kruti, a National Award winner, has been the brain behind choreographies like ‘Ghoomar, ‘Dholida’, ‘Garmi’, ‘Ghani Cool Chori’ among others. “Bosco very correctly spoke about and addressed this issue. It's not just now, but even songs that have I watched from the golden era and even before that (did not adequately credit choreographers). There are many songs where the credit of the choreographer is not there and the song is visually appealing and it's an audio -visual medium. The music directors, composers, and singers are given their due credit. Sadly, they don't acknowledge the choreographer all the time. Although, it has improved." "Especially in Indian cinema, because most of the cinema is based on the songs and the dances, and not just dances. There are other songs which are montage songs and which are moment songs and there are love songs. They're all choreographed by technicians and choreographers. Every song needs to be given the due credit that everyone involved in has been there—especially the choreographer. And it needs to be addressed," she stressed.  Prem Rakshit should have been acknowledged at the Oscars: When asked to give a shoutout to recent choreographies that won her heart, Kruti shared, "I like and appreciate a lot of choreographies. For example, 'Naatu Naatu' was brilliant. I think Prem Rakshith, who is the choreographer for that song, has done a mind-blowing job with that song. And I watched the film because of that song. I wanted to see how it was placed in the film. Obviously, the movie was wonderful too". "But that was one song that I don't think I would have loved to do because I don't think I would have done justice to that song the way Prem Rakshith has done. He should have been acknowledged even at the Oscars because along with the song, the choreography is what made everyone remember that song," Kruti added.  Kruti further acknowledged the recent numbers and choreographers that she loved. "There's a Nora Fatehi song that Rajat has choreographed and there is a Jacqueline song that Piyush- Shazia have choreographed. Vijay Ganguly is doing some amazing work. I absolutely loved 'Jhoome Jo Pathan'.  I thought it was very glamorously shot and Bosco has again done a fabulous job."

It was spread out over a big geographical area in Film City, and it is just beautiful. There were separate spaces- there was a kitchen, and my bedroom; each character had their rooms. I had a bathroom also.  “There was a hamam in someone else's bedroom. It had fountains, a choubara, an angaan, and balconies. There was also a performance room, a ballroom, and a café! There was just a whole street! He had built a city almost, with shops; selling everything from kites to perfume to dupattas. There was a dargah at the entrance of where we were supposed to shoot. It was just beautiful. It was a no-phone set otherwise I would have just gone through it and shot everything. It was just stunning- the level of detailing was just amazing,” she added.  In 'Heeramandi', Richa plays the role of Lajjo a courtesan who has an addiction problem and is kind of self-destructive, lovelorn, and hopeless. When saree-clad Lara Dutta bashed up a man who pinched her at Chandni Chowk

Bollywood actress Lara Dutta, who once ruled the big screens with her beauty and charisma, is back with multiple work opportunities on her platter. She made her debut in 2003 with the film 'Andaaz' alongside Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopra Jonas. In an interview, the former Miss Universe recalled how she bashed up a man who pinched her during the film’s promotions in Delhi.  Lara told Hautterfly, “I've faced a lot of eve-teasing incidents of course, and I've also talked about them. During the music release of my debut film Andaaz, Priyanka (Chopra), Akshay (Kumar), and I went to Rhythm House at Chandni Chowk in Delhi. I was wearing a sari. As we were trying to get into Rhythm House, a huge crowd had erupted since Miss World (Priyanka) and Miss Universe were coming together on screen for the first time, and there was Akshay Kumar. So someone pinched me. I realised something's wrong, and probably due to my army background training, I pulled him out and he fell down on the road. But then I bashed him up so badly, in a sari. Akshay got very worried, and he pulled me away from him, and said, ‘What are you doing? You’re an actor now. You can't be doing all this'.” Meanwhile, on the work front, Lara will next be seen in the upcoming web series, 'Ranneeti: Balakot & Beyond'. She portrays the role of a power broker, delving into the intricacies of modern warfare and geopolitical dynamics. Directed by Santosh Singh, the series promises to unravel untold stories behind a major defensive operation, shedding light on the amalgamation of traditional and contemporary warfare tactics. Speaking about her involvement in the project, Lara Dutta, in an exclusive interview with ANI, shared her deep-rooted connection to the subject matter. Hailing from a military family background, with her father and sister serving in the Air Force, Lara emphasises her innate sense of patriotism and duty towards the nation. She remarked, "First comes your country, and then comes your family or whatever will always be in the number two position." "For me, choosing this story was a special thing because when the Balakot air strike happened, we got more insider information while being in the Air Force than civilians," she said.  Besides this, Lara Dutta has an exciting lineup of projects in the pipeline, including 'Welcome To The Jungle', 'Suryast', and 'Ramayana'.

The actress, who has made headlines for her befitting replies on and off social media, shared in an interview that she is not with the shutterbugs pushing and pressing buttons.  Taapsee told Hindustan Times, “Paps feel I’m difficult, whereas I’m just being real. In an urge to get clickbait photos and captions for their Instagram pages, they sometimes push and press the buttons of all celebrities, which I am not comfortable with. As a pap, if you talk to me, and I’ll have a conversation, but if you press my buttons saying, ‘Your last film didn’t work, how does it feel?’ or ‘Itni der se khade hain, photo to de do’, then I’m not going to indulge you. There needs to be mutual respect.” The ‘Badla’ actor further mentioned that she has learned a new word ‘Lajvanti’ which is a label for those who try to be overtly submissive and sweet. She said, “It’s for those who just laugh it off, acting dumb, and that’s considered sweet, cute, and adorable. Sorry, but I can’t be Lajvanti. War 2 meets Brahmastra: Hrithik, Jr NTR, Alia & Ranbir enjoy dinner outing

Crossovers in film? Nah, everybody does that. A crossover in real life? Now that sounds like a perfect Sunday idea from Ayan Mukerji. The ace director managed to bring the stars of his own films together for a casual outing. Yesterday, excitement surged when it was revealed that the cast of 'War 2' and 'Brahmastra' met for a dinner night. 'War 2' Meets 'Brahmastra' Last night, a paparazzi account shared a video of Ranbir Kapoor and Jr NTR stepping out of the car, both twinning in black. The two then waited for Ranbir's wife, Alia Bhatt, to join them. While we were thrilled to see these three together, we didn't know we were in for a bigger treat. Just after Alia, Ranbir, and Jr NTR arrived at Veronica’s Restaurant, another car pulled up, and filmmakers Karan Johar and Ayan Mukerji emerged.           View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by Viral Bhayani (@viralbhayani) Shortly after, another video was shared on the paparazzi account showing lovebirds Saba Azad and Hrithik Roshan arriving for the dinner party. In the video, Hrithik could be seen wearing a striped grey shirt, dark grey pants, and a brown cap, while Saba held his hand, sporting a white crop top, pants, and heels. About 'War 2' 'War 2,' the sixth film of the Yash Raj Films (YRF) spy universe, is directed by Ayan Mukerji. The film pits superstar Hrithik Roshan against NTR Jr in a bloody showdown of epic proportions. It also stars Kiara Advani, while the music is composed by Pritam. A report by mid-day.com states that the two actors will also engage in a dance-off in the new thriller. While it was a foregone conclusion that the Aditya Chopra production would include a dance number featuring Hrithik, it seems the makers have devised a situation to involve Taarak’s character in showcasing his nimble-footed skills as well, especially after his smooth moves in the Oscar-winning song, ‘Naatu Naatu,’ from SS Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’ (2022), co-starring Ram Charan. Reportedly, Pritam has created a pacy track that is said to be one of the high points of the thriller. Considering that Hrithik’s song, ‘Jai Jai Shivshankar,’ with Tiger Shroff in ‘War’ (2019), was a chartbuster, the makers are leaving no stone unturned in upping the ante in all aspects, from scale and action to emotions and music.

Anees Bazmee and Ayushmann Khurrana

Have you heard? A busy year ahead for Ayushmann Khurrana

mid-day had reported that Ayushmann Khurrana is teaming up with director Anees Bazmee for a horror comedy titled Bhootiyapa (Setting a date with spirits, April 10). Now, rumours are rife that the actor and the director, who have been keen on working together, are yet to lock on the subject. “At this point, it is not known if the project is a horror comedy, the double-role film that Shahid Kapoor was supposed to do, or an entirely different subject,” says a source. Nonethless, the informer maintains that  in keeping with Bazmee’s forte, the movie will have a good mix of humour, romance and drama. Incidentally, this project marks Ayushmann’s fourth collaboration with Junglee Pictures, after Bareilly Ki Barfi (2017), Badhaai Ho (2018) and Doctor G (2022). Ayushmann is slated to commence work on Karan Johar and Guneet Monga’s spy comedy in July, followed by a vampire comedy with Samantha, and Vikramaditya Motwane’s biopic on former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly. Bazmee is currently working on Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and is scheduled to commence No Entry Mein Entry in December. So, it remains to be seen which film will they eventually team up for.  Sand doesn’t mean Dune  After considerable thought, the makers of Kalki 2898 AD have finally locked its release date. Sharing a new poster of the Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone-starrer on social media, the production house wrote, “All the forces come together for a better tomorrow on June 27, 2024.” Initially slated to release in January this year, director Nag Ashwin’s futuristic thriller was deferred to May 9 as the extensive VFX took longer time to create. However, the Lok Sabha elections in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on May 13 compelled the makers to look for an alternative date with cinemas. Interestingly, Nag was recently asked about Kalki 2898 AD being compared to the Hollywood biggie, Dune, helmed by Denis Villeneuve. The filmmaker laughed it off, saying, “Yeah! That is because you see sand. Wherever you see sand, it looks like Dune.” The film also features Kamal Haasan and Disha Patani in pivotal roles.  Jolly face-off begins Over six years after Jolly LLB 2, director Subhash Kapoor has kick-started the third instalment of his courtroom drama franchise. Jolly LLB 3 revolves around the legal wrangle between the two Jollys—Arshad Warsi, who played Jagdish Tyagi aka Jolly in the 2013 film, and Akshay Kumar, who essayed Jagdishwar Mishra aka Jolly in the 2017 offering—in the courtroom of Judge Sunderlal Tripathi. Veteran actor Saurabh Shukla returns to play the judge for the third time. Apparently, Arshad begins filming first, with a month-long schedule in Rajasthan. Akshay is said to join the shoot later. It is learnt that Subhash has found a relevant case on which the latest instalment is centred. The names of the leading ladies will be known in the coming days. The film will open in cinemas next year.  Dance you must!  On the eve of International Dance Day, Nicktoons Motu and Patlu celebrated the occasion with mom bloggers and child celebs like Nitya Moyal, Azinkya Mishra, Vidhaan Sharma, Mahi Bhanushali and Arshiya Sharma, in association with Shiamak Davar Institute of Performing Arts. The idea was to also encourage imagination and individuality among children. Reiterating that one doesn’t have to be a great dancer to shake a leg, Shiamak said, “Dance gives you a lot of power to be yourself, it has become a great form of self-expression.” Sharing his belief that today’s kids have the ability to take dance to new heights, he added, “For children, it is crucial to explore avenues beyond the digital realm and that is why dance needs to be a part of school curriculum. It equips them with the tools they need to thrive in whatever path they choose.” Talking movies Nine years after Dil Dhadakne Do (2015), in which he lent his voice to the Mehra family’s pet dog, Pluto, Aamir Khan is said to team up with Zoya Akhtar for a film. For now, he is busy with RS Prasanna’s Sitaare Zameen Par, that is slated to release around Christmas 2024.  To new beginnings Samantha turned a year wiser yesterday.
