Shagird - Film review

Shagird
U/A; Drama
Dir: Tighmanshu Dhulia
Cast: Nana Patekar, Zakir Hussain, Mohit Ahlawat, Anurag Kashyap
Rating: **1/2

Based on the nexus of politicians and cops, Shagird is a raw and stripped-down look at the underbelly of this network. Nana Patekar plays Hanumant Singh, a policeman who isn't black or white but greyu00a0-- you never know what his next move might be. Singh along with Bunty Bhaiya (Kashyap) work for the benefit of a politician (Hussain). Then there's a TV journalist who gets kidnapped and the drama begins.

Shagird definitely isn't your run of the mill cop-drama. There are ample of twists and turns that pique your interest. Dhulia smartly uses his characters to create enough fervor and they definitely don't let you down in the two-hour plus duration of the movie. Performances by almost everyone are excellent.

Right from Nana who's seems to be in top form to Zakir Hussain who plays a politician for the first time. Without going over the top, the dialogues are real and relatable. Apart from Nana, they are the star of Shagird. Action scenes are impressive and ending on a high-note, the climax has the correct impact. Watch it for the performances and a solid engaging storyline.
